Getting Started

Qurbani (Udhiya) is the ritual sacrifice of a livestock animal during the days of Eid-ul-Adha. It is Wajib (obligatory) upon every sane, adult Muslim who possesses wealth equal to or above the Nisab threshold on the days of sacrifice.

Nisab Requirement

The threshold is equivalent to the value of 52.5 tolas (612.36g) of silver or 7.5 tolas (87.48g) of gold.

No "Hawl" Needed

Unlike Zakat, Qurbani does NOT require you to hold the wealth for a full year. You only need to possess it on the days of Eid.

Essential Rule

For Qurbani, wealth includes cash, gold, silver, business assets, AND surplus assets (items you own but do not use for basic necessities, e.g., a second phone, extra furniture, or a property not for residence/rental).
